Art

2 min read
I've not rendered anything artistic in quite some time now. I do still dabble in Photoshop and Cinema 4D once and a while, but its usual off of a side project, or just to help visualize something.

All in all its come to pass that I really don't have any real artistic talent. I can follow a plan, I can mimic others work, but coming up with completely original ideas and actually following through with them just does not seem to be a thing. Not when it comes to traditionally digital art anyway.

I have however found myself enjoying more intricate "art". Web Development and systems creation is a different form of artwork that I'd say I am not too bad at, and I quite enjoy. May not be the best at making Wordpress templates, but designing a back end from scratch? No problem.

Still, with all of the above not withstanding, I have gotten into painting a bit. I may or may not post completed works on DA in the future. We'll see how it goes.

A final note regarding DeviantArt as a whole;
I've been on this site for close to 10 years, I still visit it from time to time to check in, but it looks as if the majority of the friends and people I've met through here are long gone, or use the site exceedingly rarely (myself included). Still, to those of you out there that I have met through DA, I thank you for being awesome. This site may no longer be what it used to be for myself, or many among us, but the fact that it brought us all together, even if only for a few years, is something pretty awesome.

That is all for now.

Journal Entry

4 min read
This time it has been over two years since my last journal entry. Honestly, not a lot has changed in my life in the past 3 years. Does that mean my life is perfect? No, but it is peaceful and for the most part fulfilling. Multiple promotions later I'm still a Computer Service Technician (ConnectPro Senior Expert specifically), which I do still enjoy doing.

Looking over my previous journal entry, not even my media setup has changed. My computer has kept up with the times, I've been upgrading it bit by bit ever 6 months to a year. Other than that, the TV, Monitor, Projector, all the same. I bought a new lamp, if that counts for anything?

On the art side of things, nothing has happened (surprise!). I do enjoy the camera that is on my phone, and use it for taking pictures, but none that I would class as 'art'. The latest things I've put up being the Panoramas. I do enjoy doing those, something about being able to take in an entire environment all at once...

Truth be told I've been working on a different kind of art for the last 9 months, if you want to call it art. I've been scripting and programing an application (client and sever) for work in my spare time. Most of it is done server side via PHP, which while a scripting language has a certain artistic feel to it. There are general conventions or 'best practices', but like any programing/scripting language, and any art medium, there are many different ways to accomplish the same goal. There is just something about PHP that I fell in love with, and no other language has been able to match. I enjoy creating new projects, putting things together, making things work, even when its frustrating or I am stuck on something, it still draws me in. Getting lost for hours at a time trying to find the best/most efficient way of completing a task.

Put that against the Client side programing I've been doing with .Net and I get lost for hours trying to figure out how I broke a subroutine, or why its parsing a file and throwing an error (turns out it was the Date! Dates are evil, and extremely inconsistent. If one system time is on en-US, and another is on en-CA, it can cause all sorts of errors if your not prepared for them! Lesson learned!). That's another thing; I've learned so much over the last 9 months. From project planning to time management, setting goals and following through, to Source Code Management and trying to keep your development environment aligned with your production environment.

To elaborate, I had decided early on to work with Source Management (SVN in this instance), to gain experience with it, and to add better tracking to my code. I had worked a bit with Git in the past, but not in active development (Just committing finished projects to GitHub). After getting a good environment set up (that took some time...) I became used to making regular commits and keeping everything tight.

So that's has been my life for the last while. More work, hanging out with friends on the weekend, getting more experience with application development, and so on.

What about you? The reader, how have you been? I know some of my old DA friends are still out there, and have a lot of things going on (Looking at you Hori !),so what has happened these last few years?

So its been a little over 2 years since my last journal, which is not at all surprising. This thing seams to get updated exponentially slower. First 6 months, then a year, now two years and so on.

So, my life? For the most part its very much evened out. I'm working as a Computer Service Technician now, I got my A+ Certification, but still no sign of college in sight unfortunately.

Since the last update I've had 2 years of work experience, 'moved out' on my own (2 roomamtes), had an entire 6 month long relationship, got a high end gaming computer (built myself), got into First Person Shooter games (First CoD4, now MW2, soon to be (tomorrow) Black Ops), re-played/beaten for the first time almost every Final Fantasy game again (FF8 does not count. Stupid game and its freezing), and taken a liking to typing out very very long sentences with no periods.

Over the past few years, I've grown apart from some friends, and grown closer to others. For the most part life has treated me very good these last two years. I've gotten to do and see a lot of stuff, but was not so lucky in doing some other things.

As far as materialistic acquisition goes, other then the Gaming PC (i7, 6GB memory, 80GB SSD, 2x1TB HDD's) I also picked up another 22" monitor (Similar to this one jaryth000.deviantart.com/art/2…) and a 42" LG TV (which sits in my room and looks huge) an Optima Projector that displays on the wall behind my TV and makes a pretty 72" (SD) image. And recently I bought a PS3 to use as a bluray player, and started my own Bluray collection.
A picture of my current setup can be seen here: jaryth000.deviantart.com/art/M…

Other then learning a ton about computer repair from my job, I also have taken more of an interest in web design. Learning a lot more about HTML/CSS, and then learning PHP from scratch was a fun experience. My primary website; jaryth.net/ has over gone a few changes over the last few years, but this latest design in my favorite yet.

As for DeviantArt, I have still been 'active' on here... but only enough to come on, check my messages then leave. I haven't even opened an art-related application (Photoshop does not count in my case) in months. I guess the inspiration is gone? Without actually being given a task of "Model This:" I just cant get into it. I've played around a lot more in Adobe After Effects, but thats all video stuff. Hmm We'll see what the future holds.

Well thats it for this update. I hope everyone is now sufficiently caught up on the goings on in my life.

Also, Everyone that stops by, leave a comment! I wana see how many I can get! That means you  too Holly!

Well, due to the lack of updates for... uh like a year, I guess I should post something.
WELL, a fair while back I posted that I got accepted to Collage. Yeah well that failed. BUT I got accepted again. Oops, yeah that failed again. Lack of money this time. Pulling $4000 out of your ass is a lot harder then it would seam.
But, that doesn't mean all is lost. I've got myself a job I really like for one. Im a Futureshop Tech now, and I really like it. Its what I love doing anyway, plus the people I work with are great, pay is good, and Im learning a lot! Futureshop really is an awesome place to work. Well, mine is at least.
Aside from the Job, well still single, but no surprise there. I do however still get to hang out with a lot of my friends, which Im glad for. Everyone made it sound like as soon as you graduate high school, you instantaneously lose contact with all of your friends. Maybe its just the Digital age we live in now that makes it easy to keep in contact with people, maybe its the fact that most of my friends live within walking range... maybe its that we're all nerds and hang out playing games...
So, Im glad Im still in contact with a lot of my friends, and get to talk to them a lot of the time. Not that there arnt friends I'd like to talk to more (*cough*Holly*cough*). But still.
I like where I am right now. Learning, getting money, getting older, and slowly getting A+ Certification so I dont get fired.. but thats a long story. Hmm within that, so... Im 19 years old and living with my mother. Which, isnt all that bad (well Im turning 20 soon <_<), but its about to change. My Mothers moving out, and (due to the fact that I fear change :P) a friends moving into the apartment (splitting rend) (A friend with an HDTV, 5.1 Surround sound system and PS3.... fucking woot), so it should be an interesting experience.
Sure Im going to miss my mother... but at the same time, Im equally not going to miss having to get up early every few days to watch my brother and sister...
Also on this note, even with the job, the fact that Im going to now have to pay bills and rent is going to seriously crack my ability to save money for school for next year. Although maybe this time Ill be able to actually get a student loan. I couldn't get one this year, because I Was living with my mother, and she didnt get her taxes in last year (the Student loan place needs info from the tax forms). So.... hopefully things work out on that front.
For the immediate future, I look forward to living on my own(ish), as well as learning stuff from my new job, and getting A+ Certified. Beyond that? Who knows... My original '5 year plan' fell to shit... but... life goes on.
>_> I wonder if anyone will actually read this... I dont think so... but... I think thats why I put it up here, instead of places like Facebook... who knows? blah... Comment if you read. even if your not commenting on the content, comment just to comment k?
